Changpeng
Zhao, popularly known as CZ, the CEO of Binance, revealed on Monday that the
business had chosen to convert three cryptocurrencies totaling $1 billion worth
of BUSD from the Industry Recovery Initiative fund. Zhao predicted that after
the news, there will be noticeable onchain moves.
The
Conversion of $1 Billion BUSD by CZ Will Occur Despite Issues for Stablecoins
Changpeng
Zhao, the CEO of Binance, revealed on Monday that the company had converted $1
billion BUSD into ethereum (ETH), bitcoin (BTC), and BNB (ETH). The remaining
$1 billion from the Industry Recovery Initiative funding will be converted by
Binance from BUSD to native cryptocurrencies like BTC, BNB, and ETH due to
changes in stablecoins and banks. Onchain transactions will include some funds.
Openness," Zhao added.
Following
tweeting the announcement, CZ provided a link to a transaction explorer for the
transfer that the exchange handled as well as the location for the Industry
Recovery Initiative. Those who are a little frightened by recent stablecoin
events will feel considerably more comfortable, according to a response to CZ's
Twitter thread. In response, the CEO of Binance said, "I didn't even think
about it that way. Just now, I was talking about how to keep the money in a
secure asset. Yet that also functions.
According
to Nansen's exchange portfolio tool, Binance has 7.56 billion BUSD stablecoins
as of this writing. The announcement from CZ comes as USDC struggled this
weekend to maintain parity with the US dollar following Silicon Valley Bank's
bankruptcy (SVB). Additionally, US authorities pushed Paxos to stop creating
BUSD, and ever since, billions of BUSD tokens have been taken out of
circulation.
Although
BUSD has come under regulatory attention, the stablecoin has largely managed to
trade within the $0.99 to $1 area. BUSD briefly fell to the $0.9848 level on
March 11, 2023, but it quickly recovered to outperform five other stablecoins
that had strayed from $1 parity over the previous weekend.
